Piecing Is The Cornerstone
Hands-on Workshop – Limit 20, 6 Hours, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Instructor: Debbie Wendt, Wendt Quilting
A table runner of techniques. Explore how fabric choices and block placement can change the look of your piece. Become a confident quilter with trusted machine piecing techniques including four-patches, half-squares, quarter squares, and flying geese.
Bring to class: 6”x24” ruler, rotary cutter, 18”x24” mat, straight pins, instructions, pencil, notepad, camera (optional)

Dye the Color Wheel
Hands-on Workshop, 3 Hours, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Instructor: Nancy Begin, Rainbow Dyes
Use Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes to create a rainbow of fabric! Using yellow, red and blue we will produce greens, oranges and purples. This is an introduction to solid color dyeing, patterning, and over dyeing. We will learn basic principles of color mixing, proper handling of the dyes and chemicals used in processing fabric, and how to set up space in your own home to dye fabric safely. No previous experience playing with dyes is required. You will take home a color wheel of 9 half yard pieces – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple – and three other shades in between.
Wear to class OLD CLOTHING.
Bring to class: canvas tote bag (plastic lined would be ideal) to take home fabric. They will be wet!
Kit fee $59 (Kit includes PFD fabric, dyes, tools (weigh boats, beaker, cylinder to measure dye) urea, soda ash, Synthrapol, freezer bags, gloves and a mask. Additional PFD fabric and dyes will be available for purchase. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.

Vintage Is Back

Get out all those vintage hankies, tablecloths, laces and even buttons. Barb will intrigue you with the magic she creates with these items. Hankies are great for making pockets, tablecloths can create a wonderful jacket, and buttons are used to top it all off.

A Tisket A Tasket... Enchanting New Ways With Jackets!

Come and spend a few creative moments with the queen of garment modifications. Elegance and beauty are not words often used to describe sweatshirts and T-Shirts. Not until now. Cindy has a knack with sweatshirt and T-Shirt modification and she’s here to show you how! See a parade of beautiful new garments that have been created to give you lots of ideas for designing your own. She will cover simple fitting, what kind and size to buy, how to make them shorter…even longer with her fun and interesting samples. If you’ve seen her before or if this is your first time…you will be enthralled as she shows a bevy of unique and different ways to modify and change our old standbys and you’ll be itchin to get stitchin! A Dozen Favorite Construction Techniques
Lecture, 1 Hour, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Instructor: Peggy Sagers, Silhouette Patterns
She’s fast, she works with a wide range of fabrics and there’s not a puckered seam or mis-set sleeve to be found. Learn her techniques and find your sewing becoming more accurate, fast and fun. This is new stuff and new methods you will want to learn. They are fast, easy methods you’ll use over and over, even for the hard stuff you don’t think you can do (like notch lapels) to save mounds of time. Collars, cuffs, waistbands and fly front will be shown. Methods are direct from the garment factory where Peggy wrote the guide sheets.

Follow the Line Machine Quilting
Hands-on Workshop using machines, 3 Hours, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Instructor: Cathy Scovill, Batik Quilts
Do you fear making a mistake in machine quilting? Practice your free form machine quilting skills by simply following the lines of a hand-painted batik panel. Learn how to quickly assemble your quilt sandwich with basting spray and begin quilting. Use a hand-dyed fabric for your backing and use variegated thread on top and bottom to create a fantastic reversible project!
Kit fee: $35. Kit includes an 18" hand-painted batik panel of your choice, coordinating border fabric, two strips 7 1/2" x 18" and two strips 7 1/2" x 32", batting 36" square, hand-dyed backing 36" square, and variegated thread.

7 Key Sewing Skills
Lecture, 1 Hour, 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Instructor: Cynthia Guffey, Cynthia Guffey Ent.
If you are less than satisfied with the finished look of your garments chances are that you have overlooked one or more of the key sewing skills. Have you encountered pulls, uneven seams, and puckers and wondered why? Then you spend time trying to press the area into submission. Cynthia will discuss and demonstrate seven important elements and the impact they have on the project. Incorporating these techniques will result in fewer “headaches” and will yield results that shout “professional.”

French Curve Madness

Don’t know how to use one? Bad. Very Bad! However you can come to this class and find out what you have been missing all these years. You will see how much better the whold world of sewing is with this tool. Oh, and don’t tell anyone you do not know how to use one because they do not how to use it either! The sewing industry is under a rock when it comes to instruction on the French curve. So come step into the new century with great instruction on how to use this important ruler. Peggy Sagers wrote an article for Threads Magazine on how to use the French curve. The article was voted one of the top 10 articles by Threads readers. Where is it? Out of print, but in this class we will learn it all.

Dimensional Landscapes

Instructor: Cindy Losekamp
In this twist of fiber, cloth and thread you will find a new horizon. Learn to take a standard photograph and turn it into a textural work of art. See how to dissect a picture, simplify it and create the patterns for it, layer it up and then create it with many types of needlework. This class covers applique, free motion, working with heavy threads in the bobbin case, various types of stitching, including couching and felting using a felting machine and hand tools as well. These are done with every kind of process including machine embroidery and much free machining so no matter what kind of machine you use, you can do this. Cindy has always created landscapes from fabric and thread…come and see what’s new to inspire your creativity. Class fee: $10.

Pet boutiques sell pet vests, jackets, collars, harnesses, beds, and other accessories for big bucks. They take very little fabric and are so much fun to make. Learn how to create these practical and fashionable accessories for your favorite four legged friends, learn about pet clothing software, and see a pet fashion show. Doesn’t your pet deserve to know what the best dressed are wearing this year?

Say goodbye to any conventional way of using stippling to fill in negative spaces on any quilt. This very unique, easy to understand and easy to execute technique will have your creative juices flowing, as you can add your own twist to Irena’s ideas. From very dense to allover, this technique is very forgiving and the visual effects are very impressive. No planning ahead and no marking of the background designs are required.

Felted Sweater Bag From Recycled Wool

Make purses, tote bags, camera, phone and eyeglass cases using recycled felted wool sweaters. This knit fabric is super easy to work with and doesn’t fray, allowing even beginners to whip up cute and versatile accessories in minutes.

You’ll never look at scraps of fabric the same way again. You’ll soon be on your way to being a master at “Trash Bagging” using up scraps of fabric, left over quilt blocks, left over pieces of lace and trim, cool threads, fun techniques and lots of fun stitching. After we’ve “stitched” your work of art we will create a neat bag that will be perfect for sewing tools, coupons, or maybe your make-up. Then, to top it off we will add a very unique closure…..a tape measure. What fun! This class will certainly strike up your hunger for more creative sewing.

See how simple embellishments, raw edge appliqués, mini piping, prairie points, and stippling can bring more creativity into your quilts. Silk Screening 101

Turn bland or ugly fabrics into dazzling ones when you add silk-screened motifs. Learn how easy it is to silk screen on fabric, adults' and childrens' clothing, bags and even shoes! Practice the technique on cotton, denim and silk fabric swatches you can use in a crazy quilt, pillow top or evening purse. Then use your new skill to design a one-of-a-kind T-shirt you’ll be able to wear out of class! Sizes Medium to 3X available…one T-shirt included in your class kit.

Set In Sleeves
Lecture, 1 Hour, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Instructor: Cynthia Guffey, Cynthia Guffey, Ent.
Do you hit a stumbling block when it is time to set in the sleeves? Do you hate the results that you get? Cynthia will show you all of the tricks to sewing a perfect sleeve cap. She will cover the issues of stitch length, distribution of fullness, and elimination of puckers. Look over her shoulder as she sews the sleeve into the armhole. Learn her techniques and you will be enjoying beautiful set in sleeves.

Versatile Skirt Yokes

Fitting the transition from the waist to the hip can be a challenge in skirts and pants. A great solution is a perfectly fitting yoke that can be added to almost any pattern. Cynthia will demonstrate how to custom fit a yoke on the body and create a pattern to solve your fitting issues. The process is easy and the results are a fabulous alternative.
