Vintage With a Kick!

Cindy has always loved vintage linens, doilies and the treasures that are passed from one generation to the next and she has loved recreating them using the exciting machine methods of today. Come and see the new embroideries, designs, garment modifications, machine stitching, and many other methods she has come up with to create the things we will pass down to future generations. You will see how to make your own special memories “by hand” using your machine, special stabilizers and threads to create the new vintage techniques Cindy has developed for you. Come and see her bountiful collection of new and different kitchy ideas to create the new vintage! Class fee: $10.

Contemporary Rag Baskets
Hands-on Workshop, 2 Hours, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Instructor: Heidi Allenbaugh, Kitty Allen
Make bowls, baskets, trivets and coasters using an easy hand-weaving technique. The craft is traditional, the results chic and modern. Heidi’s baskets were featured in the November ’09 issue of Country Living magazine. She will show you how to make your own with nothing but your fingers and a stick – no sewing, no glue!

Wool & Fleece – A Cinch to Sew

Wool and fleece are two very popular fabrics. They can be very easy to sew using some of Barb’s favorite techniques. Learn to pick the proper styles, create simple edge finishes, and quick and easy construction techniques.

Quilt in a Cup
Quilt In A Cup photoHands-on Workshop using machines, 2 Hours, Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Instructor: Patsy Shields
You can make this fun and funky such as the picture or use florals and make it more romantic / elegant. Plan some trims to dress it up or use decorative stitching in contrast colors. This will be a fun, easy but interesting class and you will have a-one-of-a-kind mug to transport your favorite beverage in. The $13 kit fee includes one cup.

You will need:

  • One 20oz. acrylic cup with insert capabilities. (cups $6.00 each available from instructor.)
  • 12” square of thin batting such as Warm & Natural.
  • Several scraps of cotton fabrics; 8-9 pieces at least 12”-14” long x 1” to 3” wide
  • Neutral sewing thread, some quilting thread to quilt the piece with and all purpose sewing foot or 1/4” foot. Size12 - 14 topstitch or quilting needle
  • Any decorative threads, trims, etc. to embellish patchwork with.

A Passion for Pillows

Instructor: Pam Damour, The Decorating Diva
Join the Decorating Diva Pam Damour for pillow parade. Let Pam demonstrate many of her workroom techniques used in custom decorator pillows. Pam will discuss neck roll pillows, envelope pillows, padded flanges, pleated ruffles, ruched cording, double welt and more! Pam has special techniques that are easier and better looking than anything you’ll find in books.

Sew Vintage

Instructor: Amy Barickman, Indygo Junction & The Vintage Workshop
Amy Barickman, founder of Indygo Junction and The Vintage Workshop shares a trunk show of ideas for incorporating vintage textiles, thrift shop finds and cast-offs into unique fashions…from recycling denim, felting sweaters, to pillowcase pullovers and embellishing with hankies. Fun and easy fashions from Indygo Junction designers will inspire you to Sew Vintage!

Denim As a Fiber
Lecture, 1 hour, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Instructor: Cindy Losekamp
From landscapes to garments, you will be amazed at the beauty of denim. Cindy has always loved creating with old denim. The soft, much washed fabrics of passed down jeans have found a new home in these amazing creations. Monochromatic in color, the tones are a soft reminder of a simpler time when things were re-used, re-created and re-loved. You will learn how to treat it and how to utilize it down to the last bit. You will go away from this class with a new sense of wonder and an eagerness to create. Class fee: $10.

Quilts of a Different Color
Hands-on Coloring Workshop, 3 Hours, 11:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Suitable for All Levels
Instructor: Irena Bluhm, Irena Bluhm Designs
Learn how easy it is to apply color using colored pencils to a small, already quilted piece, ready for painting. You don’t have to be an artist, just try to paint what you see. Don’t shy away from using bold colors and stark contrast to create a drama. You can learn how to do the shading in order to make your designs look dimensional. It is a lot of fun and very relaxing. Irena feels very passionate about what she is doing and loves sharing her experiences, the good along with the bad, so you don’t have to go through the pain of learning the lessons the hard way like she did.
Kit fee $35 (Kit includes one quilted sample (12” x 12”), ready for color application, two sets of 12 colored pencils, one set of six brushes, plastic dispenser cup, 2 oz. textile medium, paper pattern package, CD with all information about the coloring technique, plus another CD with 367 images in color.) Origins of the Wrinkle
Lecture, 3 Parts, 3 Hours, 12:45 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
Instructor: Cynthia Guffey, Cynthia Guffey Ent.
One frustration of fitting is eliminating unsightly wrinkles; above and below the bustline, in the armhole area, shoulder to bustline, below the base of the neck, the crotch area of pants, below the hip in pants and many more. Attempts to correct these issues often multiply the problems. The key is identifying the origin of the wrinkle and knowing the correct alteration to apply. In this series of classes, Cynthia will show the process. She invites you to bring garments with which you are dissatisfied in order to diagnose the origin and demonstrate the solution.
Part 1 will cover bodice back, below the base of the neck, shoulders, armhole areas and more.
Part 2 will cover bodice front, above and below the bustline, from shoulder to bustline, neckline and more.
Part 3 will cover pants, crotch area, below the hip, pulling between the crotch and knee, and more.

Twinkling Tinkerbell Needle Felted Silk Scarf

You will be amazed at the beauty of this scarf. Starting with a hand dyed silk scarf, you will add the beautiful fibers called Tinkerbell fluff while needle felting your troubles away. In this mass of curly mohair, silk and Angelina, you will find a sea of color unmatched by anything you've ever seen. Simply and quickly your scarf will be felted into a masterpiece you will want to wear forever. What's that? You're done already and you want to make another one. Quick techniques for a quick quilt! Make a quilt top from beautiful batik fat quarters. Great for beginners and fun for quilters of any level.
Bring to class: 6”x24” ruler, rotary cutter, 18”x24” mat, straight pins, pencil and notepad.

Take the smiles out of your pants – they belong on your beautiful face! Learn how to measure yourself and draw a pattern that only fits you. Judy will show you how to make any necessary adjustments on the finished garment and then transfer those adjustments back to your pattern. Learn all the sewing and fitting tricks to make your pants look perfect! You will feel and look fantastic! Now go have a candy bar!

In class you’ll create this beautiful, yet fun project mastering pin tucks, using a wing needle as you create the most beautiful tissue box cover ever. Join in the fun and learn how “real Sharks Teeth” are created. You may think they are prairie points…..but they are not.
