Cincinnati Original Creative Festival
Cincinnati, OH June 24 - 26, 2010
Nancy Begin has been making heirloom quilts for over 15 years. Having tried her hand at many types of crafts, she has finally settled on quilting. At any given time you will find multiple quilts in progress with different patterns and colors abounding. Nancy grew up in Saco, Maine. She remembers asking Santa for fabric one Christmas to make a new outfit. Under the tree that year was enough wool to make slacks, a skirt, reversible vest and a wonderful navy cape lined in red. Another Christmas Nancy made purple velvet jumpers for herself and her two sisters. She continued to sew her own clothing all through high school, including the creation of her senior prom dress. She married her high school sweetheart in 1975 and fashioned her wedding gown complete with lots of lace trim. Along came three sons in the next five years and money being tight, many baby and toddler clothes were stitched, knitted and crocheted. In the early 90s, Nancy’s friend, Wanda, introduced her to quilts and quilt fabric and quilt patterns! Quilts have been made for family, friends, donations and raffles. In the last 17 years, Nancy has developed her professional skills in office management and has begun doing independent consulting and computer training, assisting dentists in managing their practices. Never having a full enough plate, Nancy has created Rainbow Dyes, a full line of hand-dyed cotton fabrics. She is currently working on a line of specialty quilts that will be personalized for clients. Future plans include a pattern line, quilt book, and live classes and seminars.
