Designer Linda McGehee is known worldwide for her award winning books, patterns, and spectacular fabric manipulating techniques. 2010 marks the 30 Year Anniversary of her business, Ghee's, a mail order sewing company specializing in her books, patterns, embroidery designs and related threads, fabrics and sewing notions. Linda's methods of texturing and customizing fabrics to create unique surface textures and designs keep her constantly traveling to lecture at trade and consumer conventions, guilds, shops and on television. Her book, Creating Texture with Textiles, published by Krause, shows many of her creations from the prestigious Fairfield Fashion Show, Bernina Fashion Show, Statements, Capitol Imports and Better Homes & Gardens. Her handbag and vest patterns are a palette to showcase these machine embellishments. Linda created 3-D designs for the embroidery machine through Cactus Punch. Floral Dimensions and Floral Dimensions 2 make flowers come alive using various types of threads. Simply Sensational BAGS, How to Stitch and Embellish Handbags, Totes, and Satchels, offers numerous sensible and practical ideas to personalize bags to fit each personality. Whether for fun or organization, the bag is the perfect base to showcase embellishment techniques. The Perfect BAG, is Linda's third book with Krause.

Tired of being hidden and ignored, the zipper is exposed as a truly versatile embellishment. Let the zipper make a statement on your next project. Don't use a zipper foot! There are new and different applications. Use zippers as trim, artwork, jewelry, and places that you never would have used a zipper, included are at least five easy ways to insert a zipper. Come join me and learn the new tricks with zippers. It's an adventure with the sewing machine! Class fee: $10

Building Kaleidoscopes

As a child, it was fun to play with kaleidoscopes and watch the different designs evolve. A twist of the wrist and the design was gone forever! Today, it is easy to create kaleidoscopes with your own photography. By using different template shapes, you'll marvel at the works of art that can be created to print on fabric on fabric or paper. Use the kaleidoscope as a base for further thread embellishment, build a project with the kaleidoscope as a focal point or piece it into a block for a quilted project. This could be another creative addiction. Class fee: $10

Everything that can be made into a garment, pillow, wallhanging, or quilt can also be made into a handbag. Handbags are the rage and you need more than one. Discover how easy it is to make bags with character to fit your special needs. Whether making a cute evening bag, holder for CDs, or large carryall for everyday, there are tricks of the trade. Padded shoulder straps, chain application, corded piping, sew-in magnetic snaps, bag feet, and under construction essentials are some of the basics. There are tips for proper positioning of creative design for all styles of bags. Use handbags as a palette to play with your sewing machine while creating bags uniquely your own. They are so much fun. View many bags from Linda's collection. Class fee: $10

By the use of feet, needles, and special tools, and with today's marvelous sewing machines, Linda applies her step by step imaginative process and transforms details from ordinary and practical to exotic accent pieces that can enhance and convert fabric into sewing magic worthy of boutiques worldwide. BRING SUPPLIES LISTED BELOW
Would you like to use those samplers from longarm or quilting classes? Great for beginners or the seasoned stitcher, this bag makes a great quick project and/or gift. The kits are cut and serged. The easy to make bag uses a new zipper application. Learn quick miters and accurate finishing touches. Walk out of class with a finished project and the knowledge to make more!
Bring basic sewing thread off white or black, straight pins with big heads, and small scissors.
Class fee: $20. Kit fee: $10. (kit fee paid to instructor at beginning of class)
