Cincinnati
The Original Creative Festival June 23-25, 2011
Author and Crochet Designer Ellen Gormley will be in the Southwest Ohio Crochet Guild booth during the Festival.
Ellen has been crocheting since she was 10. Her first design was a 3 dimensional Rubik's Cube made of granny squares. From there, her fondest crochet memory is crocheting a blanket with her mother for her grandmother's birthday. Ellen can't remember exactly who taught her to crochet but believes that it seeped into her consciousness from an early age from her Great Aunt, Tanta Margaret, who resided next door.
Ellen abandoned crochet as a teenager only to pick it back up again while in Graduate School at the University of Cincinnati. She has crocheted obsessively ever since, stitching more than 80 afghans before beginning her design career in 2004. Now, Ellen has sold more than 100 designs, and been published numerous times in many crochet magazines including Interweave Crochet, Crochet Today, Crochet!, Crochet World and Inside Crochet. Her designs have been shown on the PBS shows, NeedleArts Studio with Shay Pendray and Knit and Crochet Now! Her first full length book Go Crochet! Afghan Design Workbook, is now available with F+W/Krause publishers.
In 2008, Ellen was voted the Best Crochet Designer of Home Décor by the Crochet Liberation Front. You can follow Ellen on her blog at www.GoCrochet.com and as 'GoCrochet' on Twitter, MyCraftivity.com and www.Ravelry.com.
When not crocheting, Ellen enjoys reading, knitting, Jazzercise and chocolate cake. Ellen lives near Cincinnati with her husband Tom and their two children.
